QLD run helps Broncos

By Broncos.com.au

Sam Thaiday says the Broncos bunkering down in Queensland for the final five weeks of the NRL competition rounds has been an unexpected bonus.

The Broncos have not been out of the State since their defeat to this Thursday's opponents, the Eels, on July 28.

Since then they have belted the Titans on the Gold Coast and Sharks and Dragons at Suncorp Stadium.

They host the Eels on Thursday and then go to Townsville next week to play the Cowboys in the final round before the finals.

After three wins on the trot, Thaiday said the lack of travel – giving the Broncos the advantages regularly experienced by Sydney teams - had been handy.

"It has definitely helped," he said.

"The last few weeks we have played down the Gold Coast and then had a couple of games at home.

"It has definitely helped with some of the boys' routine and given the club a chance to rest a few boys on training day and to ice them up for the weekend."

Thaiday said the close proximity of the game against the Eels would allow the Broncos to give themselves a good marker of their performance.

Importantly, if Brisbane can beat the Eels, they cannot miss the top four no matter what happens next week.

"It is a bit weird (playing the Eels again), but it's kind of a good thing for us," he said.

"We can look not too far back and see what we can fix.

"I think we are a better team than we were three weeks ago.

"We want to win so we can secure a top-four spot."

The Broncos will name the team to play the Eels at 4pm this afternoon.
